So why the star?

I was born and raised in a little town called Lititz, in Pennsylvania’s Amish Country. It was founded in 1756 by Moravians, a Germanic religious order. Although the Moravian congregation there now is a small fraction of Lititz’s population today, its influence is felt all around town. This is most noticeable at Christmastime, when many homes hang a Moravian star outside to “shine a light in all directions.” Christmas in Lititz means venturing out in the cold and snow to visit friends and family, bringing baked goods and connecting in front of the fire. And to those born here — no matter where they are now — it means the soft, welcoming glow of the Moravian star. That star will always mean home to me.
